Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can I have an outside vendor cater an event or sell food on campus? How do I request an exception?
A: Catamount Dining is the sole food service provider for WCU and operates with a right of first refusal for any event involving food service at the University. Exception requests should be made by using this form and submitting it to
catering@wcu.edu. Catamount Dining will take several criteria into consideration when evaluating exceptions including the size of the event, the capabilities of Catamount Dining, and health and safety considerations. Any and all exceptions are granted on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Can I use an outside vendor if I hold a local event off-campus in Cullowhee, Sylva, Dillsboro, etc.?
A: Catamount Dining’s right of first refusal extends to all University business and food functions (i.e. use of University funds), not just events held on University property. Please see the exception process above if you would like to request an exception.

Q: I have a provider that is willing to donate food for my event. Can they provide food on campus?
A: Catamount Dining is responsible for the health and safety of food events on campus and must approve any alternate accommodations for food service on campus. Please see the exception process above if you would like to request an exception.

Q: My student organization would like to provide food for an event. What are our options?
A: Any event that provides food using University funding should operate through Catamount Dining. Catamount Dining has special options geared toward students and clubs, along with options for providing catering from retail locations on campus. Please see the exception process above if you would like to request an exception.

Q: My organization buys snacks as part of our accommodations for students and guests. Does Catamount Dining need to be contacted to provide those snacks?
A: Pre-packaged, shelf-stable snacks (IE. Individual-sized items that do not need to be refrigerated or prepared) for business purposes may be purchased through University standard operating procedures and do not need to be purchased from Catamount Dining. All other food items should be purchased and coordinated through Catamount Dining.
